This week the group met again to discuss
the research each member had gathered over the weekend. Firstly we had four
members research a specific decade of hip-hop. I myself was tasked with
researching the 90s. To me the key way to research the decade of hip-hop was to
split it into three sub groups. I began by researching the fashion of 90s
dancers, it was apparent there was a clear look that the 90s held and that was
brightly coloured baggy clothes most usually multiple colours. I then went on
to looking at the style of dancing they did in the 90s I found several videos
on Youtube that highlighted the specific differences between 90s hip-hop and
other decades of dancing. Finally I looked at the music that was big in the 90s
especially around the hip-hop scene. It was important to get a clear idea of
the music, as we would need to create our own original soundtrack for the
instillation. Once everyone had presented their research on the project we then
began to discuss how we would actually execute the idea of our video. I proposed the idea of splitting the video
into 4 different segments that could be projected alongside each other on the
wall, with each segment coming to life in chronological order. On top of our
research into each decade we also needed to focus on finding locations, which
John had done some research into finding several possible locations for each decade.
In order to select the best possible locations it was decided that some members
would recce the locations over the next week.
