This week we began our stories and spaces
project. We found out that as a group we would be tasked with creating a media
art instillation focusing on Hip-hop dance and its history. We started off by
visiting the Pavillion in Bournemouth where our final work would be displayed.
The day started off with a talk from Danielle Rose who was head of the pavilion
dance organisation. We were told that our work would be displayed at a viewing
and great installations would be made a semi permanent fixture in the building.
As groups we were then taken around the building so we could see the available
spaces and make a decision on where to put our instillation. It became clear
that there were two favourable spaces, one of which was in the corridor to the
left and the other on the wall immediate to the right as you walk into the
building. With this in mind we then set a group meeting in the university
library for the next day. We all were tasked with coming to the meeting with a
basic idea on the concept of our instillation. At the meeting it was clear with
all group members that the key focus point of the project was capturing the
history of hip hop and showcasing its evolution. We came up with the idea of
having a video in which the dancer starts as if he is in the 70s but then
progresses through dance and his appearance into the present day. Once we had
our initial idea the next stage was to assign production roles to all the
members of the group in order to have some level of organisation and to enable
us to start creating a plan of action. The roles assigned were as
follows;
Luc Wybourn-Whyte - Director
Matt Thomas - Production manager
Harley Messenger - Projection mapper and
cameraman
John Jevons - Location manager
Steve Bailey - Editor
Hari Jain - Editor
Lucy Wright - Sound
Ollie Cooke - Sound
George Booker - Projection mapper
Once the roles had been assigned the group
then set each other tasks for the coming week based on the roles we had taken
on. Once this was sorted we then adjourned the meeting until the following
Monday when everyone would bring their weekends research to contribute.
